Wake-Up Wal-Mart and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Representatives Debate for the First Time
ST. LOUIS, Missouri--- The J.C. Penny auditorium sat poised on the edge of eruption for a few juicy moments as debates sparked between a few vocal audience members and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. representatives Wednesday. For the first time in the history of the retail giant, three gracious representatives from Wal-Mart along with their most active dissenter WakeUp Wal-Mart shared the same stage and final panel at LERA – Gateway Chapter’s Exploring the Wal-Mart Model program. The program presented views from many sides of the debate including local mayors for an opposed to Wal-Mart, academics and students having researched the Wal-Mart model, and audience member questions submitted via written card.
LERA-Gateway Symposium Invites East-West Gateway Coordinating Council Executive Director Les Sterman to Speak
ST. LOUIS, Missouri--- The Labor Employment Relations Association (LERA) – Gateway Chapter, will present Exploring the Wal-Mart Model, Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, J.C. Penney Building Auditorium, One University Boulevard, St. Louis, MO 63121-4400.
Mr. Les Sterman, Executive Director of the East-West Gateway Coordinating Council of Governments (EWGCCG), will serve as one of the guest speakers. “The EWGCCG tries to educate communities and elected leadership about healthy economic development and building individual wealth in communities. Most of our work in this area is in helping to rationalize and reform economic development incentives,” Sterman explained.

St. Louis, MO— TheLabor and Employment Relations Association (LERA) – Gateway Chapter collected a total of seven awards from the National LERA 59th Annual Meeting in Chicago last month. The crown jewel of the awards bestowed upon the Chapter was the prestigious Chapter Star Award given to only two of the fifty nationwide chapters. The Chapter Star award was based upon several criteria including Outstanding Programming, Member Innovation, Community Involvement, Consistent Chapter Excellence, Chapter Communication, and Chapter to National.

The Riley Award is presented annually to an honoree who has improved the labor or management community, and is reflective of leadership that promotes improved practices within the Bi-Sate Region.
